Angus Yearling Sale 2021

At Kakahu we are committed to linking producers to consumers; the key is how we do it…

This is by far is my most favourite part of the year, however it's been a challenging start to the spring for most; the start of winter brought unprecedented floods, now the winds, I have not experienced for many years. I'm told, 'this is farming', as farmers we are resilient and adapt with whatever is thrown at us... Well, that is true, we do, and we will.

I'm always trying to make things easier on our farm. A good way to start is by having a great crop of calves, lots of them, born easily with them flourishing when they hit the ground. Heifer calving now a widespread adoption in most breeding herds, it has only been achieved by meticulous breeding objectives focusing on traits that enhance this opportunity.

So far, we are up to calf number 120 in the heifer mob, we have not assisted one heifer which is what we expect.

We hope you are all having a great calving, many of you who have been on our heifer mating programme and having great results from discussions we have had. We always enjoy feedback, please let me know. If there is anyone wanting to start a heifer programme or are having issues, please contact me so we can look into the issues that maybe contributing.

I look forward to seeing may of you on the 7th of October.

Tom
